Ah my beloved Steelers. My second wife. We have been through so much together. My love for the NFL and for the Steelers borders on worship, I am ashamed to say. Should I have been one of the Israelites in the desert when Moses was up on Mt. Sinai and Aaron would have pulled out a 50′ HD TV to watch the NFL on, sadly, I would’ve worshipped.
Throughout the years and travels and places I have lived it has been difficult to follow my team on TV. So when I find someone that can hook me up and get me a tape of the game, well, that’s just golden.
And that person is Wayne. He lives next door to us and is originally from Pittsburgh. Wayne has the NFL package on his satellite that allows him to see every game the Steelers play and he tapes it for me. Good man.
Some days I cannot wait for the game to finish and get my hands on the tape so I will peek at scores or scan the internet. Alot of times I will know the result before I even sit to watch it.
And that is what happened this particular time. I knew ahead of time that the Steelers had won, but it was a very close game. With each play I felt myself growing anxious and upset. Back and forth it went, we were down, then we were up, then a fumble. It was exhausting. It got to the point where I had to physically stand and walk it off; reminding myself that the game was finished, the outcome had already been sealed hours before. It didn’t matter what I was watching at that moment or how seemingly out of reach a win was, it was over. The Steelers had won the game and I had lost any enjoyment of the moment by fretting and pacing
Right now you and I are watching a tape run of this world. Right now you and I are getting caught up in the watching and not in the remembering that the outcome is over. This is a ‘taped’ event folks. The outcome, thanks to what Jesus did, has been sealed. God wins, and wins going away.
There is no reason for us to fret and grow anxious when events seem to spiral out of control. When the world grows more and more violent and terrorists insist they have power, we must remember: God wins. And wins going away.
